Algebra I (ALG)
Algebra I is one of EducAide's largest and most popular database modules. With 18,630 free-response problems, it offers teachers a seemingly endless supply of material for their classrooms. And as one of Acces' core databases, it is designed to serve both instruction and assessment needs and match up well with any textbook.
Problems are organized into 170 topics that are common to most first-year algebra courses. The following topics are covered extensively in the module:
- Real number system
- Exponents
- Polynomials
- Averages, percents, formulas
- First degree equations
- Problem-solving
- Factoring
- Solving equations by factoring
- Ratio and proportion
- Rational expressions and equations
- Square roots
- Completing the square and the quadratic formula
- Inequalities and absolute value
- Graphs and equations of lines
- Systems of equations
As in the other core modules (Pre-Algebra and Algebra II/Trigonometry), the problems in Algebra I are organized in groups of four. This means four problems in a row are always similar in concept, appearance, and level of difficulty. Thus, it is very easy to create multiple versions of a test, or pre- and post-tests, make-up assignments, etc. Plus, there are plenty of extra problems for review worksheets, quizzes, and regular assignments.
While the module is especially effective for classroom instruction and testing in grades 8-10, it is also useful for review of algebra skills in a geometry class, for instruction in the first quarter or so of an advanced algebra class, and for putting together competency and placement tests for a school or department. The range of topics is so broad, and the coverage so thorough, that nearly every teacher in a math department will find uses for the Algebra I module.
