Texas Elementary Reading (TX8)
In 1998 the State of Texas replaced its Instructional Targets with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS. As a result, a new exam, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS has been developed and will be implemented in 2003.
The TAKS exam is a completely re-designed assessment. The new design is intended to pose more authentic questions and more accurately measure student learning. EducAide is pleased to serve our Texas customers with a new collection of TAKS/TEKS-aligned modules.
TX8 will replace our TAAS based elementary reading module (TX4), providing users with a new TAKS ready bank of reading passages and items.
The TX8 database module contains 83 expository, mixed, narrative, and paired reading passages. The 2,317 problems in this database were written to meet the TAKS objectives for grades 3–6 and match the format of the new assessment. Educators will appreciate the multi-sentence summary questions, the variety of passages that reflect the four kinds of selections being assessed on the TAKS, and the thorough coverage of the TEKS.
