Answer Spaces

This command brings up the Answer Spaces layout options page. The two sections let you specify what type of answer space to show for a problem, what it should look like, and where it should be drawn.

As with all other options in the second group of the Format Menu, certain options on this page may be disabled, depending on whether or not the settings are to be applied to the current Part/Problem, or the entire document.

Include Answer Spaces

Select this option if you want to provide an answer space for a problem.

Appearance

Type

Select the type of answer space you want to provide for a problem. Different options will appear to the right of the list for additional configuration of the selected answer space type. The available types are:

• blank space— an empty space
• box— a simple rectangle
• line— a single horizontal line
• grid— a bubble-in grid with numbers, decimals, and fractions, depending on the style chosen
• essay— a block of horizontal lines for writing essay responses
• bubbles— a row of bubble-in answer choices

Mark/show correct answers

Select this option print the answers to a problem in the answer space. This option is useful if printing out master test documents for review.

Show Answer Spaces

with problem

Set this option to draw the answer space next to or as part of a problem. The positions available are:

• left— the answer space is drawn to the left of the problem
• right— the answer space is drawn to the right of the problem
• below— the answer space is drawn in a separate block below the problem
• end of problem— the answer space is drawn right after the problem text, as if it were part of the problem
