Working with Inserts

What are Inserts?

Inserts are additional or supplementary content added to a Part or Problem, such as a reading passage or a pie chart relevant to a word problem.

Insert Associated With Description
Passage Part Reading passages, poems, display pieces, etc. referred to by the problems in the associatd part
Directions Part Directions for students that apply to all problems in the associated part
Figure Problem Charts, figures, illustrations referred to by the associated problem
Summary of Part and Problem Inserts

Because they're treated separately from the Parts or Problems they're associated with, Inserts can be formatted, edited, and moved around independently of the other elements in your document. Right-click their icons in the Document Tree to bring up a popup menu with all the commands you can perform on them.

Adding Inserts to Your Document

Inserts can be added to Parts by right-clicking the Part or Problem in the Document Tree, selecting the Insert submenu in the popup menu, and selecting the appropriate element you want to add.

You can also use the main Insert menu to do the same thing. Make sure the desired Part is selected in the Document Tree, then select the appropriate item in the Insert menu.

Figures can be added to a Problem by editing the Problem and using the XFigure tab.
